Governance

Trustees of Feversham Education Trust are:

Rt Hon Ruth Kelly (Patron)

Ruth is currently Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at St Mary’s University in Twickenham London. Ruth served as a cabinet member in both Tony Blair and Gordon Browns Government, becoming the youngest women to hold a cabinet position as Secretary of State for Education in 2004, Ruth also served as Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in 2006 and Secretary of State for Transport in 2010. Ruth is passionate about girls’ education and social deprivation she has campaigned throughout her life for social equality and mobility.

Ali Jan Haider (Chair)

Ali Jan Haider is Director of Strategy for Clinical Commissioning NHS Bradford with a proven track record of successful strategic and operational leadership, excellent organisational skills and extensive experience of school governance in the independent, maintained and academy sector. Ali Jan Haider has vast experience is delivering substantial programmes in the healthcare sector, leading national government reforms, contributor to various social and economic development forums and initiatives and management experience of large financial budgets.

Sajjad Khan (Vice Chair)

Sajjad Khan has around 20 years of global leadership experience in the corporate environment with GE Capital. He has a proven track record of delivering large strategic transformational programmes and management of operational teams based in multiple countries. Sajjad has lived and worked in numerous countries gaining valuable international experiences. He has extensive experiences in a range of business functions that include IT & Digital; financial management and controllership; governance, risk and compliance (GRC); shared services; strategic transformations; M&As; commercial development; quality and operations (Lean Six Sigma) and more. Sajjad is currently completing his Doctorate (part time) in the field of GRC.

Geoff Ashton

Judged by Ofsted as an Outstanding Secondary Head on two occasions, Geoff is regarded as an expert in the present educational landscape. He brings a wealth of relevant, up to date, educational expertise at strategic, management and practical levels.

Geoff was one of the country's first Executive Heads, was elected Chair of an Excellence Cluster (5 yrs), Chaired an Education Improvement Partnership (5 yrs) and Chaired a Graduate Teacher Training Programme (10yrs). He is part time Operating Officer of his local SCITT. He was a Board Member of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for four years, Local Secretary for Secondary Heads Association (SHA)/ Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and Cabinet Office Public Servant of the Year for community regeneration and partnership work. A Director of seven companies and Board Member of his local Chamber of Commerce, he is a Governor of Wigan University Technical College (UTC) and is a Board Member of Wigan Youth Zone.

Geoff has been an Education Adviser to the previous and the present Governments for the last ten years. He has been responsible for the successful educational structures and deliverables of over 90 Academies, 6 UTCs, 2 Studio Schools and 6 Free Schools. He has been the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF)/ Department for Education (DfE) representative at the selection and appointment of over 120 Academy Principals for secondary, primary and alternative provision schools. He is a Trustee/Director of two Multi Academy Trusts in North West England and Senior Education Adviser to Baker Dearing Educational Trust delivering and supporting UTCs.

Sarfraz Khan (Finance & Audit Chair)

Having spent seven years within two regional accountancy practices, Sarfraz made the move into industry to work within the finance functions of owner managed SMEs. Utilising the skills and experience gained from the practice environment, Sarfraz was able to make significant contributions to the financial controls of the companies he became involved with and rose rapidly to the most senior finance positions within these organisations.

In 2005 he set ran a private business providing Interim/part-time FD services and strategic business advice to owner managers of SME businesses, with specific focus on distressed cashflow management, turnaround and restructuring. Through his business network, Sarfraz has developed good relations with many of the regions banks, ABLs and private lenders and has advised many clients on corporate finance transactions. As well as holding the ACCA qualification, Sarfraz also holds an Executive MBA.

Professor Irfan Awan

Irfan Awan is a Professor of Computer Science and Head of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) at the University of Bradford. He received his PhD degree in Performance Modelling of Communication Networks from the University of Bradford, UK in 2007. He joined the University of Bradford as a Lecturer in Computing in 1999 and then promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2004, Reader in 2007 and became Professor of Computer Science in 2009. Professor Awan was partly seconded to Namal College, an associate college of the University of Bradford between 2008 - 2011 to act as its Vice-Chancellor.

Waqas Ahmed

Waqas is a senior executive at KPMG delivering financial and strategic transformational programmes in large organisations across the country. Having joined KPMG’s Audit practice in 2008 he delivered audit services to a wide range of companies varying from small owner managed business to Billion Pound turnover firms. He progressed to a managerial position within the Audit function team and has now been transitioned into an advisory role within the firm.

Waqas currently focuses on large private sector businesses, providing them with Financial Strategy and Transformation advice, with the main focus areas being: Target Operating Model Design; Finance Function Recovery; Finance Business partnering; Business Integration and Separation support; and Business Growth and Development.

Professor Ihtesham Rehman

Ihtesham ur Rehman was appointed as a Reader in Biomedical Materials in the Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering at Sheffield University. He has BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry and a Doctorate in Biomaterials from the Department of Materials, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). After a long career at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Biomedical Materials, QMUL, he joined the Department of Materials Sciences and Engineering in January 2011 and is part of the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Group based within the Kroto Research Institute. Ihtesham is a recognised authority on spectroscopy of biomaterials and biological molecules.

Shakoor Ahmed

Shakoor a graduate of the University of Bradford with a BSc in Business and Management, is a highly successful and dynamic entrepreneur who has demonstrated great strategic and operational leadership in developing the MyLahore business into a nationwide success story. Shakoor has vast experience in commercial development, financial controllership, programme management and management of a number of employees. He has excellent organisational and delivery skills and is at the forefront of driving digital transformation in the food industry. Shakoor is also involved in a wide range of community outreach initiatives and an ardent supporter of social and economic development initiatives.
